One source clip, four Halloween looks
Timeline: 0–4s Evil Clown, 4–8s Skeleton Stitch Mouth, 8–12s Pale Grin Demon, 12–16s Stitched Doll, then a 16–22s setup summary covering sign-in, look selection and OBS. Follow the detailed steps below; results depend on your footage and device.
The browser demo is another way to try face-driven effects, but its library may differ from the desktop app. This four-look guide is specifically for Windows v1.6.23.
Choose your character before building the scene
Open the Halloween category between Accessories and Face Morph. These are separate entries from the older Clown and Pumpkin effects.
- Evil Clown — Free
- The starting point for testing your camera, lighting and OBS connection. Try this look before deciding whether the rest of the collection suits your stream.
- Skeleton Stitch Mouth — Pro or above
- For a skeleton-and-stitched-mouth theme. Preview it while speaking so you can judge it in the activity your viewers will actually see.
- Pale Grin Demon — Pro or above
- For a pale-face, sinister-grin theme. Check the contrast under your real stream lighting before committing to a dark scene.
- Stitched Doll — Pro or above
- Build a stitched-doll character around your outfit and background, then test whether the face details remain readable at your webcam's on-screen size.
All four looks start at 100% strength on first selection. You can lower it manually. If you already adjusted a look, the app may remember that setting instead of resetting it every time.
Get the Halloween camera into OBS
- Install or update to v1.6.23.Download the Windows installer below, close apps using your webcam, and follow the setup wizard. Administrator approval is needed to register the virtual camera; ask IT if your computer is managed.
- Register and sign in.Follow the app's first-launch sign-in prompt. New users can create an account on the account page and return to the app. You do not need to buy a plan to try Evil Clown.
- Select your physical webcam.Choose the built-in or USB camera in the top bar. Start at 720p with soft front lighting and keep your whole face in view. Do not choose FacefxLive as its own input.
- Select Halloween → Evil Clown.Check the strength setting, talk, turn slowly, and test movements you normally make on stream. See the plan section below if you want one of the three locked looks.
- Publish to the virtual camera.Enable Virtual Camera in FacefxLive and choose 1280 × 720. Reopen OBS, then use Sources → + → Video Capture Device, create a source, and select FacefxLive as the device. Do not select the raw webcam or press OBS's own “Start Virtual Camera” button for this step.
- Record a rehearsal.Set up your microphone separately in OBS. Record your look, speech and scene transitions before broadcasting, and keep FacefxLive running while recording or streaming. You can also test makeup in the desktop preview without OBS.
Need more help with source settings? Follow the full real-time effects setup guide. Custom capture resolution in OBS should match the actual FacefxLive output, not simply the OBS canvas size.
What you need for a usable rehearsal
- System
- Windows 10 or 11, x64. These four looks and this system-wide virtual-camera workflow are documented for the Windows desktop app, not macOS, Linux or mobile.
- Camera and light
- A Windows-recognized built-in or USB webcam, with camera access allowed for desktop apps. Keep useful light on your face; put the spooky lighting in the background rather than leaving your face too dark to track.
- Graphics
- OpenGL 3.3 is required for rendering. DirectML GPU acceleration needs a compatible DirectX 12 GPU and driver. No particular GPU model or fixed frame rate is promised; test the free look on your own PC.
- Resources and network
- Memory and processing needs depend on your scene, game and OBS encoder load. Test the complete setup together. Registration, sign-in, membership checks and updates require internet access. Effects are processed locally; OBS broadcasting sends video to your chosen streaming platform.
The browser demo can be tried separately on a supported browser and device. It neither installs a Windows camera device nor guarantees access to this four-look desktop collection.
Separate the look, the watermark and the resolution
- Free
- After registration and sign-in, use Evil Clown plus other free effects. The virtual output has a watermark and a 720p short-edge limit. The other three Halloween looks stay locked.
- Pro
- With active membership and successful online verification, use all four Halloween looks and all built-in desktop effects without desktop watermarks. Virtual output is still capped at 720p.
- Pro+
- Adds 1080p virtual output, including 1920 × 1080 landscape and 1080 × 1920 portrait. You do not need Pro+ merely to unlock all four looks: Pro covers them at 720p without a watermark.
Check current pricing, validity periods and plan benefits before purchasing. Membership must remain valid and pass desktop verification. Credit rules for photo/video file processing are separate from this live-camera guide.
A quick Halloween stream checklist
The Halloween category is missing
Make sure you launched the v1.6.23 desktop app, not an older installation or the browser demo. Restart after updating. If Evil Clown works but the other looks are locked, check the membership on the signed-in account.
Tracking slips when I turn or cover my face
Improve front lighting and retest with less extreme angles or obstruction. These are visual effects, not an anonymity tool: they do not guarantee your real face stays hidden in every frame.
OBS does not show the makeup
Check the desktop preview, the Virtual Camera checkbox and the OBS device selection. Match any custom resolutions. If the device is missing, restart OBS; if it remains missing, rerun the official installer to register the component.
Start with Evil Clown, then rehearse your scene
FacefxLive v1.6.23 for Windows, approximately 201 MB. Register and sign in on first use; free output is watermarked.
