Snap Camera Is Gone — Here Is a Real Replacement for OBS, Zoom & Meetings
Snap Camera shut down in 2022 and never came back. FacefxLive keeps the part people actually missed — real-time face effects on your own face, straight from your webcam, delivered as a virtual camera that any Windows app can pick up — and adds a modern 3D head-reconstruction engine behind it.
Eight FacefxLive effects in 30 seconds: aging, tiger, clown, demon mask, beard, cat, pumpkin, warrior.
What happened to Snap Camera?
Snap Camera was a free desktop app from Snap that brought Snapchat-style lenses to your webcam, so streamers and meeting hosts could wear AR filters in OBS, Zoom and other apps. Snap discontinued it in early 2022: official downloads were removed, and the app no longer connects to its services.
A safety note: sites offering a "Snap Camera download" in 2026 are not selling or distributing the real app. Many of those installers are bundled with adware or worse. Please don't install them.
What made Snap Camera worth keeping
When people search for a replacement, they usually want four specific things:
- Real-time, live, from your webcam — not a static filter you apply after recording.
- It stylizes your own face — age you up or down, turn you into a tiger or a demon — while your expressions still drive the result.
- It appears as a camera device — so OBS, Zoom, or any app that can select a webcam just picks it up.
- Runs on Windows, the platform where most streaming and meeting setups live.

Set it up in three minutes
- Download and install the Windows app (64-bit, Windows 10/11). Frame rate varies with your GPU.
- Open FacefxLive and pick an effect — your webcam drives it in real time.
- In OBS, add a Video Capture Device and select FacefxLive; in Zoom (or any app that supports a Windows virtual camera), select FacefxLive as your camera.
The real-time virtual camera is a Windows desktop feature. On macOS or Linux you can use the free browser effects and photo/video processing at facefxlive.com/demo_en instead.
Questions people ask when leaving Snap Camera
Is Snap Camera coming back?
Snap has not announced any revival since the 2022 shutdown, and third-party re-uploads are unsafe. Plan around tools that are actively maintained.
Do I need to sign up or pay to try it?
The desktop app is free to install and use — with a small watermark on the virtual camera output. An account with 100 free trial credits is only needed for the web photo/video exports. Pro ($4.99 per 30 days) removes the watermark and unlocks the full effect library.
Does my camera footage get uploaded?
No. Live camera frames are reconstructed and rendered on your own machine; they never leave your PC. Only the results you choose to save or export stay local, and account/payment data follows our Privacy Policy.
Can I make it look like another person?
No — and that's deliberate. FacefxLive styles your own face in real time. It is not a face-swap or impersonation tool, and using it to impersonate real people is prohibited by our Terms of Service.
Will it work in my meeting app?
Anything that can select a Windows webcam can select FacefxLive. We have verified streaming and calls with OBS, Zoom, Tencent Meeting, YY and Douyin; other apps that expose a camera picker generally work the same way.
Plans, in one line each

- Pro+ — $9.99 / 30 days — everything in Pro plus 1080P export, 6,000 credits, multi-device use and one custom effect slot per purchase.
